According to reports, Changchun Yatai are keeping tabs on Senegalese striker Pape Meïssa Ba ahead of the winter transfer window.
Ba, 27, currently plays for Grenoble Foot 38 in the French Ligue 2, where he has gone from strength to strength over the past three seasons — now leading the French second tier with 10 goals in 15 appearances this season.
Beginning with Troyes, Ba moved to Red Star in 2020, finishing the 2021/22 season as top scorer with 21 goals before securing a move to Grenoble.
Since then, the 27-year-old has improved his scoring rate, going from two in 35 to 11 in 34 last season, with him now on pace for at least 20 goals this time around.
Per Africa Foot, Alongside Belgian club Standard Liège and La Liga side Deportivo La Coruña, Changchun Yatai have reportedly reached out to Ba’s representatives.
The club, under Xie Hui, are looking at building a new squad for the 2025 season with a view to avoid slipping into another relegation battle.
Robert Berić remains on the books at the club, and Brazilian forward Guilherme is ready to return from the injury that kept him sidelined for most of last season.
However, Yatai do not appear to be content with their lot and are looking to build a squad to Xie Hui’s preference.
With the team operating a 4–3–3 system, Xie Hui needs a striker capable of leading the line with support coming from out wide.
Perhaps, if these reports are genuine, Ba may be considered that type of player by the team.
